OnAirCut Terms of Use
Last updated: October 25, 2026 · Leer en español
What you can do with OnAirCut, what you can expect from us, and what happens when something goes wrong. Written to be read: if a clause isn’t clear, ask and it will be explained.
Who this agreement is with
OnAirCut is a product of Soonus, the independent software studio César Hernández runs from Mexico (we and us on this page). You are whoever installs the application or takes out a subscription.
The address for anything about these terms is support@soonus.net. Registration details (full legal name, tax ID and address) aren’t published here. They’re provided in full, without fuss, to anyone who asks: a customer, a purchasing department or an authority.
Installing the application or taking out a subscription means these terms apply to you. If you don’t accept them, don’t install it.
The public beta and the trial
OnAirCut is in public beta until December 31, 2026: it’s still being developed, and until then it can be used in full without a licence. Things may change and some may fail; every error carries a code, and reporting it helps fix it. From January 1, 2027 a subscription is needed to keep using it. If that date ever moves, there will be at least 30 days’ notice, in the application and on this site.
The subscription starts with a 7-day trial. Cancel before it ends and you’re not charged anything; otherwise the first charge happens when the trial ends. Each Mac can use two free trials: from the third, a new trial doesn’t unlock that Mac until its first charge goes through, and the application offers the plans without a trial.
Your subscription
Subscribing grants you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the application while your subscription is active. There are two plans, monthly and yearly. Both renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
A subscription works on two Macs at once. To use it on another one, enter the same key on the new Mac and release one of the others from the application (Settings → Licence → Details). If you no longer have that Mac, write to us and we’ll release it. Each activation on a Mac that didn’t hold a seat counts as one change, and a subscription can make up to 10 changes in any 30-day period. Each change comes back 30 days after you use it, and the application shows how many are left before you release anything. Reinstalling the application on a Mac that is still active is not a change. If a lost or stolen Mac leaves you short, write to us and we’ll reset the count.
Using it for paid work (for your clients, at a production company, in a studio or as a freelancer) is exactly what it’s for, and needs no other permission. What isn’t allowed:
- sharing, selling, renting, publishing or sublicensing your key;
- rotating one subscription across more Macs than it allows;
- removing, defeating or getting around the part of the application that checks the licence;
- redistributing the application or a modified copy of it.
None of this limits what the licences of the free software included in the application allow you to do; for example, replacing the Qt libraries with another version. See Third-party software.
A key that turns up published, or in use on many machines at once, may be disabled. If that happens to a key you paid for, write to us: keys leak by accident far more often than on purpose, and that’s fixed by replacing it.
Purchase, prices and tax
Purchases go through Dodo Payments, acting as merchant of record. Dodo is the seller of your transaction: it charges, issues the invoice or receipt, and calculates, collects and remits the tax that applies where you are. Its terms govern the transaction; these govern the software you get.
The price on the pricing page is the price you pay. It’s in US dollars with any tax that applies to you already included; the checkout shows the breakdown before you pay. Dodo may offer to charge it in your own currency at that day’s exchange rate. Your bank may add a fee of its own, which is between you and your bank.
The charge appears on your statement with Dodo’s name and OnAirCut’s (for example DODOPAY_ONAIRCUT), not as Soonus. It’s written here because a charge nobody recognises is the most common reason for a dispute.
Renewal. Each month or each year, depending on your plan, you’re charged again at the same price. If the price changes, you’ll be told by email at least 30 days before your next renewal, and you can cancel before it.
Cancelling. Any time, from “Manage subscription” in the application, which emails you a link to Dodo’s customer portal. The subscription keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for, and you aren’t charged again.
If a payment fails, the subscription goes on hold and the licence stops working until you update your card in the portal. Once you do, it works again on its own.
We never see, touch or store card details. What reaches us is the order, the name and email on it, and the licence record.
What arrives, and where to find it again
You get two emails: one with your licence key and one with the receipt for each charge. If they don’t show up, check spam and promotions, then write to us. A payment that didn’t produce a key is fixed by hand, never by paying again.
Everything is also in Dodo’s customer portal, with no account to create: you give the email you paid with and it sends you a link. Your key, your charges and invoices, your card and the option to cancel are all there.
An invoice can be completed later with your address or your company, from the portal. A business tax number (VAT or GST) does have to be entered at checkout, because it changes the tax that’s charged.
No CFDI in Mexico. Dodo invoices from outside the country and doesn’t stamp invoices with the SAT. If you need a CFDI, write to support@soonus.net before paying: the yearly plan can be bought directly from us by bank transfer, with the invoice issued on our side. Same price, same licence, same policies.
Refunds
The 7-day trial exists so you can try OnAirCut with your own gear (your ATEM, your mixer, your microphones) before paying.
14-day guarantee on the first charge. If within 14 days of your first charge, monthly or yearly, OnAirCut doesn’t work with your gear and we can’t fix it within 3 business days, you get 100% of that charge back.
The problem is documented. Write with your order number, what happened, screenshots and the app’s log (Help → Open app log). The 3 business days count from when that report reaches us.
Renewals. The guarantee covers only the first charge. Renewals aren’t refunded for periods already started: cancel before the next renewal and you won’t be charged again. The licence keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for.
An example, monthly plan. If you cancel during the 7-day trial, nothing is charged. Say the trial ends and the first charge happens on March 7: the guarantee covers that charge until March 21. The renewal on April 7 is no longer refundable. To stop, cancel before that day, and OnAirCut keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. The yearly plan works the same way: 14 days from the first charge, and next year’s renewal isn’t refunded.
When a renewal can still be refunded. When the law requires it: none of this affects your statutory rights. If you’re a consumer in Mexico, the Federal Consumer Protection Law applies. In the European Union or the United Kingdom you have your right of withdrawal for digital content and, if it stops doing what we promised and isn’t fixed, a price reduction or a refund. Whatever is more favourable to you applies. And when we decide to: these terms set the minimum we promise, not the most we’ll do, so a renewal can be refunded case by case.
Refunds are issued by Dodo Payments, because Dodo took the payment. The money returns to the payment method it came from, on their timeline, and the licence stops working as soon as the refund is issued.
If you don’t recognise a charge
The charge says DODOPAY_ONAIRCUT (or however Dodo shows it), which is the answer for almost everyone. If that’s not it, write to support@soonus.net before asking your bank to reverse it.
A chargeback isn’t a faster refund: it takes weeks, freezes the payment while it lasts and ends, if it succeeds, with the licence switched off, just like a refund. If one is opened, Dodo asks us for evidence. What we can show is the order, the invoice, and when and on which Macs the licence was activated.
Updates
While your subscription is active, it includes every version we release, at no extra cost.
The application checks for a new version when it opens (this can be turned off in Settings) and shows you what changed. It never installs without asking you, and never interrupts a live session.
If OnAirCut stops being sold, we’ll release a final version that doesn’t need the licence server, for everyone with an active subscription on that day.
Your material
Your sessions, your recordings (each microphone’s audio and the cuts) and everything the editor exports are yours. They’re processed on your Mac: we claim no rights over them and never get to see them.
You’re responsible for having permission to record the people in your sessions and to use their voice and image.
If you send us a file to track down a fault, it’s used only for that: it isn’t published or shared, and it’s deleted once the fault is fixed. If your material is under NDA, say no: a description and the app’s log are almost always enough.
What is and isn’t guaranteed
The application is provided as is. It does what this site and the manual say it does, and every version is tested with a real ATEM.
Automatic switching decides from each microphone’s audio levels: it can pick a camera you wouldn’t have picked. Watch your live production and always keep manual cutting at hand; the application respects it. In the same way, check the edit in your editor before delivering it.
We can’t guarantee how third-party hardware or software behaves (the ATEM’s firmware, macOS, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve), today or in a future version of it.
Liability
Our responsibility is to distribute the software, keep it working and listen to the people who use it. Yours is to check what goes on air and what you deliver. If something goes wrong, tell us: our duty is to fix it or refund you under the refund policy.
We aren’t liable for third-party events outside the program (a new version of macOS or of the ATEM’s firmware, your hardware, your network or a streaming platform), nor for indirect damages: a wrong cut on air, a recording that has to be redone, a missed date or income that didn’t happen.
Where liability can’t be excluded, it’s limited in total to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. During the public beta or the trial, that amount is zero. Nothing here limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer.
The site, the licence server and working offline
Switching cameras and editing don’t need the internet: the ATEM and the mixer are used over your local network or USB. The licence is confirmed with our server: when you activate it, when the application opens with a connection, and every few hours while it’s open. Without a connection it keeps working for up to 14 days after the last confirmation; after that, it asks to connect to carry on.
There’s no availability commitment for this site or the licence server, although a short outage on our side won’t stop your work.
Names that belong to others
ATEM, Blackmagic Design and DaVinci Resolve are trademarks of Blackmagic Design Pty Ltd. Final Cut Pro, macOS, Mac and Apple are trademarks of Apple Inc. Premiere Pro is a trademark of Adobe. Other product names are trademarks of their owners.
They’re used here only to say what OnAirCut works with. OnAirCut is an independent product and isn’t affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed or approved by any of those companies.
Third-party software
OnAirCut includes free software components (among them Qt, PySide6, FFmpeg, Python and numpy), each under its own licence: LGPL, MIT, BSD, PSF and others. The full text of each one is inside the application, under About OnAirCut. Nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you over those components. If you want the source code of an LGPL component in the version the application includes, ask at support@soonus.net (the offer is valid for 3 years).
Changes to these terms
Changes are made on this page, with a new date at the top. If a change affects your subscription, you’ll be told by email before your next renewal. The terms in force on the day of each charge govern that period.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Mexican States, and any dispute that isn’t resolved by writing to us goes to the competent courts in Mexico. If you’re a consumer, that doesn’t take away the mandatory protections of the country you live in.
Because Dodo Payments is the merchant of record, a complaint about the transaction itself (the charge, the invoice or the tax) also belongs with Dodo, under its buyer terms.
